Rye Double DBA (2016) | Firestone Walker Brewing Company
ABV: 15.0%
IBU: 19
Style: Strong Ale - American
Out of Production
Description: To celebrate our 20th year at Firestone Walker, as well as our 20th year of brewing Double Barrel Ale, we give you Rye Double DBA, a project two and a half years in the making. Building on Double DBA, our flagship beer brewed at double strength and aged in bourbon barrels, we decided to take things a step further. After aging Double DBA for just over a year in bourbon barrels, we transferred the beer into rye whiskey barrels for another 16 months of aging. The resulting “double barrel-aged” Double DBA represents our finest and most concise expression of barrel-aged character. An intense yet harmonious aroma of vanilla, toffee, coconut, baking spices, and caramel displays everything we love about fine American bourbon and rye whiskies, without the corresponding alcoholic heat. On the palate, Rye Double DBA is surprisingly lean and slightly dryer than regular Double DBA, with the higher alcohol level balancing the decadent sweetness of the original. Blurring the lines between liqueur and beer, Rye Double DBA is meant to be savored with friends and is an excellent accompaniment to caramelized desserts such as crème brulee.
