One PA | Cassels & Sons Brewing Co.
ABV: 6.0%
IBU: 57
Style: Pale Ale - New Zealand
Actively Produced
Description: ONE PALE ALE (6%ABV) Hops: Cascade Malts: Ale, Carapils Brewed: in 2500 litre batches at Maunsell St Brewery Named One Pale Ale because of the single malt and single hop. The palate is, at first soft and creamy, yet tart and spritzy, with sweet malt vying to balance a riot of tropical fruity flavours and tongue-coating hop resins. Then the mouth becomes dry as an uncompromising bitterness kicks in and lingers. The name is a clue that our brewer likes to keep things simple for this super-hoppy pale ale; just one type of malt and a single hop variety are used. Pouring a brilliant old gold hue beneath a deep, rocky white head, the aroma is sweet, perfumy and inviting, with the distinctive citrus, tropical fruit and grassy signature of New Zealand Cascade hops. The palate is at first soft and creamy, yet tart and spritzy, with sweet malt vying to balance a riot of tropical fruit flavours and tongue-coating hop resins. Then the mouth becomes dry as an uncompromising bitterness kicks in and lingers. Great stuff! A celebration of New Zealand hops, this beer makes a splendid aperitif or a wonderful partner for hot, spicy food and milder blue cheeses. Geoff Griggs – October 2011
